We are veryproud and honored to havebeen entrusted to be Programand G- eral Chairs of the Fifth International Symposium on Parallel and Distributed Processingand Applications (ISPA07) in NiagaraFalls (Canada), August 29-31, 2007. Wereceived244submissions,showingbyquantityandqualitythatISPAis a popular and respected conference in the area. Submissions were ?rst screened for their relevance and general submission requirements, and 226 of them were keptfor evaluation. All these manuscriptsunderwent a rigorouspeer-reviewp- cess. At the end, 83 articles were accepted for presentation and inclusion in the proceedings, comprising 34% of original submissions. Many individuals c- tributed to the success of this conference. We take this opportunity to thank all authors for their submissions, many of whom traveled great distances to parti- pateinthissymposiumandmaketheirvaluablecontributions. OurProgramVice Chairs helped enormously by putting together a ProgramCommittee, assigning andtrackingreviewsforeachpaper,andmakingsummaryrecommendations.
